What is (OTA) Over the Air ?

OTA is over-the-air television reception. It has been around, for free in Canada for over 50 years using antennas for reception.  It's still free today, only now with digital broadcasting we're entering a new era of Fantastic HD picture quality.

Should I consider OTA HDTV ?

After a one time cost, enjoy receiving your free HDTV signal year after year.
HD quality of OTA is Unbelievable! you receive a stunning picture because it's uncompressed unlike cable or satellite.

What do I need to receive HDTV?

You need an HDTV television If not a digital converter box is needed to convert the digital signal to analog for older televisions. You can still view the channels but not in high definition.  The digital feeds for HDTV can be obtained by TV antenna, cable or satellite feeds.

What kind of antenna do I need?

Most broadcasters in the US and Canada are using the UHF (ultra high frequency range, channels 14 to 69). UHF only antennas are smaller and can be more readily available than the VHF (very high frequency range, channels 2 to 13). Any UHF antenna (indoor or outdoor) will work fine but it should be in good condition but remember you'll need a digital convertor box

Is it legal and how do I know the service won't be taken away?

It's been available and legal since the beginning of television broadcasting.  If it was to be taken away, there would be no reason to switch to the all digital format for enhanced viewing.
